Double delight for woman Cadet Darshita Babu at INA

Ezhimala (Kerala), Nov 26: The Indian Navy's human resources strength got richer and younger with 330 cadets passing out from the Indian Naval Academy (INA) situated in Ezhimala, in Kannur district of Kerala.

Among the cadets, six were from friendly foreign nations. Some of the cadets will join The Passing Out Parade (POP) marked commissioning of the cadets of the 89th Indian Naval Academy Course (B Tech) and (MSc) Courses into the Indian Navy.

Twenty-one female cadets from the Indian Navy and the Indian Coast Guard too passed out from INA on the occasion.

Nine meritorious cadets were given awards.

Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral R K Dhowan, who was present at INA for the ceremonial review, told the cadets to serve the country and Navy with pride by upholding five key values, including commitment, courage, compassion, credibility and integrity.

The POP was witnessed by hundreds of parents, guardians and relatives of cadets who had been camping at INA for the last couple of days.

Soon after the POP, the Shipping of Stripes event was held, which symbolized their transformation from cadets into full fledged naval and coast guard officers.

Majority of cadets were headed to the Kannur railway station to board the special train exclusively being arranged by INA to take them back home. The young officers are expected to take up their first postings at various naval and coast guard units soon.

Here are the proud awardees of the day

Flotilla Cadet Adjutant Jaswant Singh, President's Gold Medal, first in the overall order-of-merit of the INAC course.

Cadet Arun Balaji E, Chief of the Naval Staff Gold Medal, first in overall order-of-merit for the Naval Orientation (Extended) Course.

Cadet Darshita Babu, Chief of the Naval Staff Gold Medal, first in overall order-of-merit for the Naval Orientation (Regular) Course and Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief (South) Gold Medal, best woman trainee of the course.
