New Delhi, Nov 19: Ending the suspense, government today said the DNA test of Geeta, the deaf and mute girl who had returned here over a decade after inadvertently crossing into Pakistan, did not match with the Mahato family from Bihar even as many other families have come forward claiming that she was their daughter.

External Affairs Ministry Spokesperson Vikas Swarup also said External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj will travel to Indore on November 23 to meet Geeta and enquire about her well-being. "It is true that we had done DNA test of Geeta.

The Mahato family had come forward and seeing their pictures, Geeta had felt perhaps they are her parents.

Their DNA test was also conducted. Her DNA test was negative," Swarup said. The report, prepared by AIIMS, has been sent to Mahato family, he said.

Geeta had failed to recognise the Mahato family after arriving here though after seeing their photographs had earlier identified them.

Swarup said some other families have also come forward saying perhaps Geeta was their child and government has been sending their pictures to her who is staying in a rehabilitation centre for deaf and dumb people in Indore.

She is being given skill development training there. "Geeta is going through the pictures but she has not said that they may be her parents," said Swarup.

Geeta's story came to light after the release of Salman Khan starer 'Bajrangi Bhaijaan' in which the hero unites a little girl separated from her Pakistani mother who was visiting India. Mahato claimed Geeta was his first child and her name was Heera who was lost in a fair in 2004.
