K C Venugopal made General Secretary

The appointment comes at a time when Karnataka chief minister is on an international tour to UAE. K C Venugopal, a Congress MP from Alappuzha constituency was a minister of state for Civil Aviation in the UPA Government. The new appointment has come as a relief to members of the Congress is Karnataka who have been vehemently opposing Digvijaya Singh. Voices of dissent against Singh were loud and clear even as recently as April when he had visited Bengaluru.

A press statement from the AICC office said that Manickam Tagore, P C Vishnunadh, Madhu Yashki Goud and Dr Sake Sailjanath have been appointed as secretaries in charge for Karnataka. Meanwhile, Dr A Chella Kumar has been appointed as the general secretary in charge of Goa while Amit Deshmukh has been appointed as secretary.

An ecstatic Congress officer bearer said that this was the first step towards preparing the party for the assembly polls in 2018. "Politicians from Kerala are different and their working style is the need of the hour for us. They are disciplined and understand the ground reality. As we know, Venugopal is a man who can get work done," he said.
