The Delhi Development Authority had razed to rubble almost the entire establishment in Kathputli Colony in the national capital, resulting in a sense of anger, fear, and panic among the inhabitants of the colony.

Despite stay order, Delhi's Kathputli Colony struggles for peace

Several people, including journalists, were beaten up during a lathicharge by the police to forcefully evacuate people of the area. The locals claimed that no notice was sent to them prior to the decision of the demolition.

The residents of the colony also claimed that proper rehabilitation was not offered and post the demolition most of them are being forced to sleep on the streets or anywhere in the open without adequate food and drinking water.

A family also claimed that their 2-year-old son died due to the demolition when teargas shells were fired - worsening the health of the child who was already suffering from cold and fever, however - police refused to comment on the issue when asked and the police reportedly refuted the claims of the family. Pooja, the mother of 2-year-old deceased Aryan had come from Haryana to visit her mother but lost her son and now said to Oneindia that her in-laws refused to take her back - holding her responsible for the death of the son.

Radheshyam, who has spent over 30 years in the colony questioned the Government, he asked, "Is this how the Government will now treat the people of its own country? We are being treated worse than enemies. Modi ji promised us of development, what development is he showing us by snatching away our homes? This government is only for the rich and not for the poor."

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal also visited the colony and promised everyone of setting up tents and supply of water and food, however many claimed that in spite of the CM's order, the police is not allowing tents to be set up to make tempory living arrangements.

According to a report, Kejriwal said, "When the AAP government was formed, we introduced a policy under which no jhuggi would be demolished until the affected people were rehabilitated. People's houses have been brutally demolished. Young girls are on the streets. One child has died," Oneindia also spotted that houses were being razed despite a stay order by the Delhi High Court on the demolition for 10 days. The DDA workers also remained brazen and said, "Those expressing pain and anger don't want development if one needs development one has to compromise a little."
