Despite CBI objection Karti allowed to travel abroad by Madras HC
The Madras High Court has allowed Karti Chidambaram, son of former union minister, P Chidambaram to travel abroad. The order came despite strong objections raised by the Central Bureau of Investigation citing lookout circulars against him.
In a conditional order, the HC said that Karti should inform the CBI about his travel plan. This would include the places he would be visiting. He should also return to India by February 28, the HC said.
The order was passed during the hearing on the case in which Karti had challenged the validity of the lookout circulars against him. The notices had been issued against him on August 16 and 18.
The circulars were issued against him in connection with the INX Media case. The agency is examining him in connection with a Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) clearance given to media group INX Media for receiving funds from Mauritius when his father P Chidambaram was the Union finance minister.
It is alleged that Karti received money from INX Media, run by the Mukerjeas, who are currently in jail, charged with the murder of Indrani's daughter.
