Dera chief's jail life: Drinking only water, sleeping on straw mattress
Rape convict Dera Sacha Sauda sect chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, who has been sentenced consecutively for a total of 20 years in jail for raping two women, didn't have a morsel of food he was provided last night at Rohtak's Sunaria jail.
Reports say that Ram Rahim who has been given any special treatment, spent the night sleeping on the floor on a straw mattress with a blanket. He had some water during the night and took sips of milk in the morning, prison officials said.
As a judge sentenced him to 20 years in jail on Monday, the 50-year-old self-styled spiritual guru Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh refused to leave the courtroom and wept, begging for leniency. He broke down, fell to the floor and cried.
"Mujhe maaf kar do (forgive me)," pleaded the flamboyant chief of the Dera Sacha Sauda sect.
A special CBI court on Monday sentenced Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh 'Insan' to 20 years in prison after his conviction in a 2002 rape case.
The controversial guru was found guilty of rape charges by the court on Friday and has been lodged up in Rohtak jail since.
Ram Rahim will not be sharing the cell with anyone. For security reasons, two policemen and two security guards have been deployed to protect him.
