On
September
26,
three
men
were
arrested
in
Bengluru
and
demonetised
currency
worth
around
Rs
5
crore
seized.
Police also seized a Maruti Swift car from the accused, who were identified as Mohammed Aslma, 50, of Jayanagar, Kalingappa alias Kalinga, 35, of Ballari and Manjunath, 58, of Nelagedaranahalli near Peenya. According to police, the trio was arrested near Mahalakshmi Layout swimming pool.
On June 5, Perinthalmanna police in Tamil Nadu seized banned currency notes of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 denominations having a face value of Rs 3.22 crore.
The special police team, acting on a tip-off that a group of hawala racketeers is smuggling banned currency from Kozhikode to Palakkad in a car, also arrested five persons in connection with the currency seizure during a vehicle inspection on Kozhikode-Palakkad highway.
