Bengaluru, Nov 15: She was a poor single mother who worked hard to fend her family.

However, when in a single stroke, something akin to a surgical strike (the popular term we are using a lot these days), a 40-year-old daily wage worker in Gudibande taluk, Chikkaballapur, Karnataka, lost all her savings, Rs 15,000 to be precise, she decided to end her life.

Suicide

This is the sad story of Eshwaramma.

On Monday, when the mother of a young boy went to a bank to deposit her savings, consisting of old denomination high value currency notes, now banned by the government, and lost it she became so depressed that she hanged herself in her house.

Eshwaramma's husband, an alcoholic, left the family long ago.

Thus she was the sole bread earner of the family, tell her fellow villagers.

After losing her money, while standing in a queue in front of a bank at Gudibande, 15 km from her village, she was inconsolable.

However, nobody in her village thought that she would take such a drastic step.

This is what she told villagers before she committed suicide, "I was not aware if the money slipped during the rush in the queue or whether I was robbed by someone."

Police said she did not file a complaint in this regard.

Villagers told reporters that she was illiterate and did not know how to approach the police.
