Delhiites faced troubles in commuting as Delhi Metro services were affected on Friday when a technical snag hit the violet line. The violet line of the Delhi Metro connects Kashmere Gate to Escorts Mujesar. According to the information given by commuters on micro blogging website Twitter, the line is witnessing a delay of about half-an-hour.

A disappointed commuter Mohit K. Sorout posted on Twitter,''Technical problem @delhi metro violet line so the fairs are increased for that delays and inconvenience.''

Earlier this year, following power failures and subsequent loss of contact of trains with the control centre, services were crippled on the Blue Line for two successive days. Trains had lost contact with the Operational Control Centre, considered the nerve-centre of the metro network, due to sudden power failures, following which the alternative mechanism of station-level handling was activated.

Earlier on Monday, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) hiked the fare of Delhi Metro services. DMRC said the raise in metro fare was necessary to meet the input costs and to keep providing world class services to the passengers. The decision to increase the fares was taken after the meeting of Delhi Metro Fare Fixation Committee on Monday.

The Metro fares were last revised in May when the minimum tariff was raised from Rs. 8 to Rs. 10.

The revised fare structure will be: up to 2 km - Rs. 10, 2-5 km - Rs. 20, 5-12 km - Rs. 30, 12-21 km - Rs. 40, 21-32 km - Rs. 50 and for journeys beyond 32 km - Rs. 60.
