Delhi MCD election 2017: After doubting EVMs, Ajay Maken resigns
Trends show that the Congress would end up in third place behind the BJP and the AAP.
North Delhi (104 Seats)
South Delhi (104 Seats)
East Delhi (64 Seats)
Maken said he would also not take up any post in the party and work as an ordinary worker for a year.
"Take responsibility for the defeat and I am going to resign as Delhi Congress president," he told media.
On AAP blaming the electronic voting machines for their loss, Maken said the Election Commission should probe the matter.
Former Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit earlier said the EC must clear the air over questions being raised on EVMs.
"Winners and losers have different versions of the problem. But in a case like this, the government and the Election Commission should come up with a solution," she said.
The BJP was leading in all the three municipal corporations in Delhi and is most likely to win MCD polls for the third time in a row.
The BJP was leading in 180 out of 270 wards, while the AAP was leading in 45 wards till the time this report was filed. The Congress, on the other hand, was leading in just 35 wards.
