Delhi law firm raid: Rs. 2.60 crores were in new currency notes, says police

Delhi Police on Sunday said that out of the Rs.13.5 crores seized during a raid at a law firm in the National Capital yesterday, Rs. 2.60 crores were in new Rs.2,000 currency notes.

New Delhi, Dec 11: The Delhi Police on Sunday said that out of the Rs.13.5 crores seized during a raid at a law firm in the National Capital yesterday, Rs. 2.60 crores were in new Rs.2,000 currency notes.

The joint raid by Delhi Police and Income Tax Department officials was conducted late on Saturday night at the T & T law firm in South Delhi's Greater Kailash area, said reports.

Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch) Ravindra Yadav said that a case in regard has been registered with the I-T department and the Enforcement Directorate.

Yadav said the raid was conducted on the basis of specific inputs, adding that the owner of the firm is absconding.

The law enforcing have been on a high alert since Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced a ban on the old currency notes of higher denomination on November 8.

On Saturday, the I-T department had discovered 44 fake accounts at an Axis Bank Branch in Delhi's Chandni Chowk area. Around Rs.100 crores were found to be deposited in these fake accounts.
