Delhi to have people friendly police soon
'Police Mitra' initiative has been launched to involve members of civil society in prevention of crime, maintenance of law and order and for better communication with citizens as a whole.
New Delhi, Nov 24 Delhi Police has drawn inspiration from Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of citizen centric policing. Under which Delhi Police has launched 'Police Mitra' scheme recently in the South West district of Delhi.

The initiatives reportedly taken by Delhi Police to make the police force people-friendly include the following:
'Police Mitra' initiative has been launched to involve members of civil society in prevention of crime, maintenance of law and order and for better communication with citizens as a whole.
"Jan Sampark" initiative has been put in place to enhance the reach of Delhi Police, to build confidence among citizens and to design a mechanism for timely redressal of public grievances. Senior officers of Delhi Police visit their areas on a pre-decided time and hear public grievances at neutral venues like auditoriums, schools, public parks, etc.
Under 'Yuva' initiative, workshops, sports activities and vocational trainings etc. were organised to channelise the energy of young adults and children from the under privileged sections of the society to make them productive members of the society and to prevent them from moving towards crime and drugs at an early age.

Grassroots level officers of Delhi Police have been instructed to hold meaningful dialogue with all sections of the society.
Officials of Delhi Police have been sensitised to be sensitive and courteous to people in day to day dealing.
Delhi Police has been using Twitter to give advisories to the people and requesting them not to panic when rumours are spread.
