New Delhi, Aug 1: A Delhi court on Wednesday allowed Congress leader Shashi Tharoor to travel abroad, for a few days starting August 10. He also has to deposit a fixed deposit receipt Rs 2 lakh before he leaves the country, which he will be refunded after his return.

Shashi Tharoor

Tharoor, a Congress MP, had applied to Delhi Patiala House court for permission.

Earlier on July 5, the court had granted anticipatory bail to Tharoor but had restrained him from leaving the country without the court's prior permission.

During the hearing for Tharoor's anticipatory bail petition on July 5, the Delhi Police had opposed it, saying the Congress leader might "flee the country".

However, Special Judge Arvind Kumar accepted Tharoor's plea, who contended that the chargesheet was already submitted in the case and the Special Investigation Team (SIT) had stated that the probe was concluded and his custodial interrogation was not required.

Sunanda Pushkar, 51, was found dead in her suite at a five-star hotel in Delhi on January 17, 2014, two days after accusing her husband on social media of having an affair with a Pakistani journalist.

In May this year, the city police charged the Lok Sabha MP under IPC sections 498A (a husband or his relative subjecting a woman to cruelty) and 306 (abetment of suicide).
