Aam Aadmi Party MLAs Prakash Jarwal and Amanatullah Khan have been sent to judicial custody of 14 days in connection with the charges of alleged assault on Delhi Chief Secretary Anshu Prakash on February 22. The Delhi High Court yesterday had rejected the plea for police custody of the MLAs, saying that the MLAs were ready to cooperate in the investigation.

Ahead of the decision of the High Court, senior leaders of the Aam Aadmi Party came down heavily on the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi and accused him of not abiding by the Constitution of India, and said that he is not working for the nation but for the ruling political party.

AAP leader Ashutosh said, "I say it with a lot of pain that Delhi is being deprived of law and order. The custodians of maintaining law and order are not doing their duty."

Refuting allegations of the Chief Secretary and claiming that the Delhi Police is failing to do its job impartially, Ashutosh said, "The Chief Secretary and a chaprasi should be same before the law. Why is it that the word of mouth of the Chief Secretary is getting an undue advantage of the video evidence provided by the AAP? Our MLAs have been at the end of casteist remarks, they have also filed FIRs, but why is the Delhi Police not working with the same alacrity when it comes to the complaints filed by our MLAs? Why does it not matter to the police that Ministers are being heckled inside Delhi Secretariat despite strict security amid police presence?"

The AAP leaders Ashutosh and Sanjay Singh also identified five of the people who could be seen heckling ministers and their staff inside the Delhi Secretariat on February 20. They said that in spite of providing video evidence and identification of the ones indulging in the act of violence, no probe has been initiated into the matter yet.

Ashutosh said, "If the LG of Delhi cannot work for the country and cannot abide by the Constitution, he has no right to be in the position."
