Umer Iliyasi, Muslim Cleric, welcomed the Maulana Arshad Madni's suggestion.

Umer Iliyasi, he said, "It is a good initiative and coming from Muslim community it'll be in country's interest. Prophet has stated that cow meat brings disease, cow milk is beneficial and cow ghee is medicinal, hence in India's benefit I urge GoI to make cow the national animal."

The Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind, at a meeting in Alwar's Shivaji Park area in December last year, had advised Mewati Muslims to transport cattle only during the daytime, and with proper documents. The Jamiat had also announced that anyone transporting cows during the night would be termed smugglers, and won't receive any support from community leaders.
