Darjeeling Court sentences youth to life imprisonment for murder
A Darjeeling court on Thursday convicted a youth for murder and pronounced a sentence of life imprisonment.
22 year old Amir Biswakarma was convicted by Judge PK Bhattacharjee of the Session Court, Darjeeling in Sessions Case No. 36/15.
Biswakarama was found guilty of murdering one Vivek Rasaily in Tribeni picnic spot near Kalimpong on January 1, 2015.
Rasaily, who was the president of the Kalimpong unit of the Gorkha National Students Front (GNSF- students union of the Gorkha National Liberation Front) was stabbed following an altercation between two picnicking groups.
Rasaily had been rushed to the Kalimpong sub-divisional Hospital where he had died. Rasaily was a resident of the Dr. Garaham's Home area of Kalimpong.
An FIR was lodged at the Rungli Rungliot police station naming Biswakarma and others. At around 11pm on January 3, 2015, Biswakarma was arrested from his residence in the Teesta Bazar area.
"Rasaily was picnicking at Tribeni when Biswakarma and his friends had arrived in an inebriated state and had started creating nuisance. When Rasaily had tried to stop them, he was stabbed" stated Pranay Rai, Public Prosecutor, Darjeeling.
Biswakarma was charged under Section 302 (murder) Indian Penal Code. 21 witnesses were examined.
