D syndicate busted: Major arrest in Gujarat
The Gujarat Anti-Terrorism Squad busted an attempt made by gangster Dawood Ibrahim gang to set up its network in the state. The ATS, based on inputs received from intelligence agencies, arrested Dawood Lala an aide of the don.
According to the ATS, Lala is related to Sharif Khan from the Jahapura area in Ahmedabad. Khan is a key player in the D-gang and has been running the show for the syndicate for the past five years now.
Lala, according to the ATS helped run the racket for the syndicate between Rajasthan and Gujarat. He is also wanted by the Rajasthan police and has many cases registered in that state. The Rajasthan police would now seek his transit remand to question him.
The arrest is significant in the wake of recent events that have been reported from Gujarat. Recently, the National Investigating Agency took over a probe in which it was found that members of the syndicate had plotted to eliminate Hindu leaders. Moreover, the syndicate has used Gujarat as a landing point for both arms and drugs.
