Crackdown on firecracker sale: Two arrested, shop sealed in Gurugram
With Supreme Court having banned the sale of firecrackers in Delhi-NCR region, two people were arrested in Haryana's Gurugram for selling them ahead of Diwali. The duo was arrested from Sector 9A in Gurugram, which is a part of the national capital region.
A shop was also sealed in Gurugram's sector 10 and 39 cartons of crackers were seized. The crackers were reportedly stocked for the purpose of selling illegally.
The Supreme Court on Friday refused to modify its earlier order of banning the sale of firecrackers in Delhi-NCR region till November 1. The court said that ban on sale will continue till further hearing in the case.
Earlier, the traders had moved the Supreme Court seeking modification of its order banning sale of crackers on the ground that it would cause huge losses to them.
While passing the order, the SC said that let us try out at least one Diwali without firecrackers. The court also went on to say that firecrackers will be available in the NCR from November 1 onwards. The graded reduction in the sale of crackers will start from November 1 onwards, the SC also said.
