CPM women tear own blouses to implicate TMC men: Mamata's minister
Burdwan (WB), Jan 13: Trinamool Congress leader Swapan Debnath courted controversy with his comments that some CPI(M) women activists were in a habit of tearing their own clothes and then blaming TMC men for molestation.
"CPIM women activists tear off their blouse themselves and then blame TMC men for molestation ... CPI(M) women activists are always in the habit of blaming TMC men for molestation but the people know the truth and don't believe them," Debnath, the Animal Resources Development Minister told TMC workers meeting at Baidyapur in Burdwan district.
As per an ANI report, "While addressing Trinamool supporters, Debnath said that the women activists of Left party often stoop to such a low level that they tear their own blouses and claim being assaulted.
Debnath added that when these activists quarrel with their husbands and are attacked, they don't blame them, but instead frame Trinamool members."
On January 1, there was a clash between CPI(M) and TMC activists in Kalna, near Baidyapur and CPI(M) women activists had then alleged that TMC men had molested them during the clash.
"This is an outrage. This shows the depth to which the Trinamool has fallen. Instead of arresting the culprits, they defend them. This is what he trains people in his party to do. Why is the Chief Minister silent?" said CPM politburo member Brinda Karat.
This shows the depths to which TMC has fallen. In a state where crime against women has increased the highest rate in the whole country, for a minister to speak like this in such derogatory terms about political opponents, she further said.
BJP leaders also condemned the statement made by the TMC leader and demanded action against him.
