Cop slapped for stopping BJP MLA's relative from entering restricted area in police station

The MLA, on his part, denied the charges and instead accused the cops of misbehaving with his son and nephew. He even claimed that CCTV footage was forged.

A CCTV footage is doing the rounds in which a BJP MLA from Madhya Pradesh can be seen slapping a constable in Dewas district's Uday Nagar police station for allegedly preventing MLA's nephew from entering restricted area.

Bagli assembly constituency MLA Champalal Dewda's nephew got into an argument with police constable Santosh Ivanati after the latter questioned him for entering a restricted area in the pilce station where two accused were kept. The nephew reportedly took a water bottle from one of the accused to which Ivanti objected.

This enraged the man, who entered into an argument with the constable and later informed his MLA uncle. Obliging his nephew, Dewda rushed to the police station, slapped Ivanati and hurled abuses at him for questioning his nephew's action, reported News 18.

"The police offier stopped the MLA for some checking. After that, we got a report that MLA slapped one of our officers. Case has been registered and investigation is underway," ANI quoted Dewas Superintendent of Police Anshuman Singh as saying.

The MLA, on his part, denied the charges and instead accused the cops of misbehaving with his son and nephew. He even claimed that CCTV footage was forged.

"When I entered the police station, I saw the officers beating up my son and nephew and I only intervened to save them. Someone has forged the CCTV footage," claimed the MLA as per a News 18 report.

The Congress lashed out at the BJP-led government in Madhya Pradesh and said that every section of the society is being harassed in Chief Minister Shivraj Chouhan's rule.
