New Delhi, Aug 10: Post Monsoon session of Parliament, the Congress is planning an aggressive strategy to send the BJP government on the back foot on Rafale deal with France.

Congress wants JPC on Rafale for the support of triple talaq

The matter was taken up by Congress President Rahul Gandhi during the no-confidence motion against the government but now the Congress wants to reap political harvest out of it the way BJP is doing on triple talaq.

Sources said that the government effort to reach out to the Congress and other opposition failed as the deal could not be materialized during the Congress and the BJP meeting on the issue of passage of triple talaq in the Rajya Sabha as the Congress was insisting on a joint parliamentary committee (JPC) on Rafale for its support to triple talaq while the BJP was promising with little concession. Had the BJP given in on the JPC, the purpose of the Congress would have been served but since the BJP decided otherwise, the Congress is also considering other possible rout to take this alleged scam to the people.

The matter not only rocked the Rajya Sabha but it was continuously raised by the Congress leaders in the Lok Sabha as well. If sources are to be believed, the Congress leadership will make this issue in the forthcoming elections of Madhya Pradesh Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan and Mizoram. The party workers will also be activated to take this matter to the street. A new strategy will be formulized to target the government.

The last CWC meeting had already decided that a roadmap should be made for the party's campaign around alleged scam in the Rafale deal and other corruption allegations against the government. The Congress wants its impact to be felt in four states -- Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh and Mizoram -- where assembly polls may be held in December. The Congress also wants to take this campaign to the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. The Congress wants to avenge 2014 elections that too were fought on corruption. The Congress leaders want to launch a 'Jan Andolan (people's movement)' on the Rafale deal and other scams under the NDA government which they plan to start anytime from now, as the party leader Randeep Singh Surjewala had announced.
