Fractured mandate in the Karnataka Assembly elections has given an opportunity to the opposition political parties to unite in their attempt to tame the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) which was having a free run as far as electoral victories were concerned with its 14 consecutive electoral successes.

Congress support to the JD (S) to do more with 2019 polls than Karnataka elections

Now, the BJP is trying to form the government in the state for being the single largest party but the Congress is also not ready to give up this opportunity as if the BJP is invited to form the government, the Congress is getting ready for legal recourse.

When the Congress was trailing behind the BJP during counting of votes it appeared if the party had resoled to sit in the opposing but suddenly action started. Unconfirmed sources said that former Uttar Pradesh chief minister Mayawati spoke to UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi that the BJP must be stop from forming the government in Karnataka and this was possible only by the Congress and the Janata Dal (S) joining the hands in the state to form the government. West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee too sent fillers to the Congress to grab the opportunity to stop the BJP from forming the government and having their say in the Karnataka government in the bargain.

Political analyst like Badri Narayan was on the view that this kind of free run of the BJP was actually impacting the morale of the Congress workers so to boost the morale of the workers such decisions might be taken by any political party. These elections will have very long tern impact as they are going to have its repercussions on the 2019 general elections. So many other political parties too supported the Congress move albeit silently as it will have its impact on 2019 elections and wanted to stop the free run of the BJP right away. Regional Kshatraps are looking for some kind of alliance to stop the BJP.

Prof Rajvir Sharma, political analyst, said that this was the reason that the otherwise dormant Congress suddenly erupting like volcano with its decision of giving unconditional support to Janata Dal (S) to stake claim of forming the government which was something uncommon to its reputation. The decision has something more to do with the 2019 general elections than the Karnataka elections.

If sources are to be believed the Congress was not only loosing elections but face also as the BJP emerged a player as far as election management and government formation was concern. The Congress appeared to be smaller than many regional parties. So other anti-BJP opposition parties prevailed upon the Congress to enter into a post poll alliance with JD(S) to form government in the state to halt the BJP's winning spree. So it decided to support Janata Dal (S) whom the Congress was calling B team of the BJP all through the elections.
