Congress drops plan to install Indira Gandhi statue in Punjab
Move to install late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi statue at Congress Bhawan in Punjab's Ludhiana dropped after furore on Monday.
Several Sikh organisations have already opposed the move and issued open warning that their supporters would resist any such attempt.
Earlier on Monday, Congress high command directed the district authorities, who were adamant on installing the statue at Congress Bhawan in Ludhiana, for not going ahead with the ceremony.
Even the district police was on its toes over the controversial ceremony that was to be performed on the death anniversary of Indira Gandhi who was assassinated by her own guards after army attacked Sikh holy site- Golden Temple at Amritsar to flush out armed militants.
