New Delhi, Apr 11: BJP leader Tarun Vijay's alleged racial remarks on Tuesday echoed in the Rajya Sabha with opposition Congress slamming it as being part of the 'divisive' agenda of the ruling party.

Congres leader Pramod Tiwari raised the issue in the Zero Hour through a point of order saying the comments of Vijay reflected 'BJP's double speak'.

"BJP is trying to divide the country on the basis of racial colour," he said.

Vijay had made the controversial remarks in a recent television interview. As Deputy Chairman P J Kurien disallowed it saying Tiwari was raising a statement of an individual, the Congress and other opposition members strongly protested. Opposition in the Lok Sabha had on Monday slammed Vijay and demanded lodging of an FIR against him.

Speaking to Al Jazeera English earlier, the BJP leader, in an attempt to shut another panellist, said, "If we were racist, why would we have the entire south (India)? Which is you know, completely Tamil, you know Kerala, you know Karnataka and Andhra. Why do we live with them? We have blacks, black people around us. You are denying your own nation, you are denying your ancestry, you are denying your culture."

His statement on south Indians and Krishna has sparked off a social media outrage with people trolling the BJP leader for his insensitive comments.
