The grieving family has held Bruhanmumbai Municipal Corporation's apathy responsible for her death. The civic agency had allegedly unnecessarily delayed granting permission to chop down the tree that was posing a threat. This very tree came crashing down on 57-year-old Kanchan Nath.

It was a disaster waiting to happen and the apathy by Mumbai's civic authority allowed it. The locals claimed that on February 17, 2017, an application as filed with the BMC seeking permission to chop the weak tree down. Officials from the civic agency who visited the spot refused to grant permission citing that the tree was healthy. Locals claim that further requests were made and Rs 1,300 was paid as a deposit but the BMC delayed in granting permission.

On Thursday morning, Nath was on her morning walk. The tree that the residents wanted to be chopped, came crashing down on her injuring her severely. The entire incident was caught on CCTV camera. While onlookers rushed to her rescue and admitted her to a nearby hospital, the former news anchor passed away in the wee hours of Saturday.

"A case of murder should be registered against officials. My wife lost her life because of their negligence," said Rajat Nath, the victim's husband.

The incident comes at a time when the BMC has issued a notice to a popular RJ for mocking pothole-ridden roads of Mumbai.

On Saturday, Mumbaikars came out in large numbers to support RJ Malishka and condemn Shiv Sena's bullying.
