CJI orders in-house inquiry into misconduct allegations against Justice Karnan
New Delhi, Feb 29: The Chief Justice of India has ordered an in-house probe into the allegations of misconduct against Justice C S Karnan.

The Chief Justice of India, T S Thakur has asked the Chief Justice of Madras High Court to seek an explanation from Justice Karnan on allegations of misconduct. A three member committee will be set up to probe into allegations of alleged misconduct.
The in-house inquiry has been ordered despite a letter of regret written by Justice Karnan. The CJI has taken a serious view of the matter and wants an in-depth probe into the matter.
In a letter to the Chief Justice of the Madras High Court Sajnay Kishan Kaul, the CJI has asked him to seek an explanation from Justice Karnan on the complaints by brother judges of the high court.
Justice Karnan was in the midst of controversy when he stayed an order that had transferred him to the Calcutta High Court. However the order was invalid and Justice Karnan was eventually transferred to the Calcutta High Court. The Chief Justice of the Madras High Court has several times raised issues of misconduct by Justice Karnan to the Supreme Court.
