Bengaluru, March 24: China will propose a new code of conduct for the Line of Actual Control (LAC) as talks with India re-start on Monday. India on the other hand would want the doubts pertaining to the alignment of the LAC to be cleared.

India's contention is that the LAC serves as the de-facto border with China and hence all doubts need to be cleared.

China to propose new code for LAC

The 18th round of talks to be held today between National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and Yang Jeichi the Chinese state councilor will discuss a host of issues pertaining to the border and the discussions comes a year after talks had been stalled.

Mutually agreed boundary:

The talks are taking place for the first time since Narendra Modi took over as Prime Minister and both sides are hopeful of a solution to the border issue.

The two sides would stress upon the need for a mutually agreed boundary. There have been doubts about the alignment which has very often led to transgressions along the Indo-China border. Both sides would work on formalities to have a mutually agreed boundary in the absence of one.

India and China had recognized in the year 1996 the differences and doubts along the LAC. Both countries had sought to exchange maps and clarify on the actual position along the LAC.

However, China which had apprehensions that India would insist on turning the LAC into a de jure boundary had taken it off the talks table. Sources close to the NSA tell Oneindia that the resumption of talks with China is a step ahead which would ensure that doubts along the LAC and its position would be clarified.

There is a need to stop transgressions along the LAC and for this both nations need to agree upon a mutually agreed boundary sources also said.
