Chennai: Woman techie dies after jilted lover sets her on fire

A 22-year-old woman engineering graduate was burnt alive allegedly by a jilted lover in her residence in Chennai's Adambakkam city on Monday night. Her mother and sister also sustained severe burn injuries when they tried to save her.

It is learned that S Induja, a B Tech graduate who worked in an IT firm died on the spot after she was set on fire by 22-year-old Aakash.

Aakash who was a college dropout and Induja had studied together. Aakash had been continuously bothering Induja to marry him. However, Induja rejected him.

According to Aakash, they both were in a relationship and that they had plans to marry. However, Induja changed her mind and refused him. Aakash then started stalking her. Because of his continuous stalking behaviour, Induja even quit her job.

And on Monday night at around 8:45 pm, Akash visited her house and got into an argument with her family members. Enraged at her behaviour, Aakash doused her with petrol, set her on fire and fled from the spot. However, he was later arrested by the police. It all happened in a matter of few minutes before the family could realise, Induja was set on fire.
