CBSE Class 12 results 2018 declared: Meghna Srivastava All India topper

Noida girl Meghna Srivastava emerged as the all India topper after Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) declared its 12th Board Results on Saturday.

Srivastava topped the exam with 499 marks out of 500. While the second topper, Anoushka Chandra, also from Uttar Pradesh, is just one mark behind with 498.

The overall pass percentage was 83.01 per cent as against last year's 82.02 per cent. Girls did better than the boys with a pass percentage of 88.31 per cent against boys' 78.99 per cent.

Highest percentage was recorded in Kerala's Thiruvanthapuram, followed by Tamil Nadu's Chennai and national capital of Delhi. While Thiruvanthapuram pass percentage was 97.32%, Chennai's and Delhi's percentage were 93.87% and 89% respectively.

Last year, Raksha Gopal from Amity International School, Noida had secured the first rank with 99.6 per cent. While most toppers belong to the Science stream, Gopal was from Arts stream. She is pursuing BA (Hons) Political Science with minor in Economics from Delhi University's Lady Shri Ram College.

Now that the Class 12 result is declared, the Class 10 results is expected to be announced within two days.

"Results for class 10 will be announced either on May 28 or 29. All evaluation has been done, not a single paper's result will be withheld," CBSE Secretary Anurag Tripathi told IANS on May 25.

For Class 12, 11,86,306 candidates had registered and the exams were held at 4,138 centres in India and 71 centres outside the country. The CBSE Board had conducted the Class 12 examinations 2018 from March 5 to April 13.

The exams for class 12, originally scheduled to be held between March 3 and April 13, were extended to April 25 when students were made to give a re-test for Economics paper after the Board came to know it was leaked.

This year the CBSE Class 12 examination was supposed to end by April 13 with the Physical Education Paper, but it later went on till April 27 because of the paper leak reported in various part of the country.
