Cauvery: You are in contempt, SC tells Centre
The Supreme Court pulled up the Centre and said that what it had done in the Cauvery Waters issue was sheer contempt. It said the Centre was in contempt for not acting on its ruling and also directed the Secretary, Union Ministry for Water Resources to appear before it on May 14.
The Bench headed by Chief Justice of India, Dipak Misra also directed the secretary to come up with the draft of the Cauvery management scheme drawn up by the government. "By now, the authority should have framed the scheme. It can't go on like this. What you have done is sheer contempt," the Bench observed.
On February 16, the court had asked the Centre to frame the Cauvery management scheme, which also included creating of a board to implement its verdict.
"We do not want to come back to square one. Once the judgment has been delivered, it has to be implemented," the bench said when the Centre represented by Attorney General K K Venugopal sought more time.
