The woman had filed a complaint with the West Bengal police where a zero FIR was registered and the matter was referred to the Delhi Police, he said, adding her complaint is being examined.

Earlier in the day, the West Bengal police served a notice on Banerjee following the woman's complaint.

The notice asked Banerjee to turn up before CID officers on Friday, Additional Director General of Police, CID, West Bengal, Rajesh Kumar had told PTI.

The woman, a resident of Balurghat, had lodged a complaint at Balurghat police station in South Dinajpur district of West Bengal alleging that Banerjee had established physical relationship with her at his New Delhi residence.

"We have taken up the case and a notice has been served to Ritabrata... The case is quite important because of the nature of allegation made by a woman. This was the reason why we have taken up the case," Kumar had said.

Last week, she had tweeted that Banerjee had promised to marry her before getting physical. In another tweet addressed to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, she had sought her help in "fighting" her "battle" against Ritabrata Banerjee.

The Delhi police today said the woman, claimed that Ritabrata Banerjee called her to his New Delhi residence and got intimate on multiple occasions on the pretext of marriage. She alleged that he went back on his promise and got into another relationship, they said.

Ritabrata Banerjee has claimed the woman's allegations were false and he has lodged a complaint at Garfa police station in Kolkata, demanding action against her for "maligning" his image, a senior officer of Kolkata Police said today.

Ritabrata Banerjee was expelled by CPI-M, who was the party's Rajya Sabha MP, for "gross anti-party activity" and breaking the party's discipline.
