Cargo ship sinks off Okinawa: 15 out of 26 Indians rescued, confirms MEA

The MEA released a list of 15 Indians rescued by other vessels in the region.

Fifteen out of the 26 Indian crew aboard a ship that sank some 600 km south of Ishigaki island of Okinawa Prefecture, Japan, on Friday have been rescued.

The Ministry of External Affairs said that the search for rest of the 11 Indians was underway. Indian missions in China, Japan and Philippines are monitoring the situation.

The Ministry also released a list of 15 Indians rescued by other vessels in the region.

Japan's coast guard earlier received a distress call by Hong Kong-registered vessel Emerald Star. The rescue efforts were reportedly hampered by a typhoon in the region.
