TMC candidate Sajda is leading by 9000 votes after the first round of counting in Uluberia Lok Sabha Bye-Election

TMC candidate Sajda, widow of former MP Sultan Ahmed, is leading after ballot counting. CPI(M) is in the second position, followed by the BJP.

The parliamentary seat witnessed a quadrangular contest with BJP trying to emerge as the prime challenger to the TMC.

Congress took an early lead in all three Rajasthan seats of Ajmer, Alwar and Maldalgarh, as counting for bypolls began on Thursday morning. Meanwhile, Trinamool took an early lead in Noapara Assembly seat in West Bengal.

In West Bengal, the fight for both the Lok Sabha and Assembly seat is expected to be a straight contest between the ruling All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) and the BJP, which has been struggling to find a foothold in Mamata's bastion.

In Rajasthan, the bypolls are not only a test for chief minister Raje but also for Rajasthan Congress chief Sachin Pilot, who has been campaigning aggressively in Alwar and Ajmer.

In the run-up to the bypoll in Alwar -- where several incidents of cow vigilantism were reported -- the Congress accused the BJP of polarising the electorate. Alwar is home to nearly 3 lakh Meo Muslims -- traditional cattle rearers like 55-year-old Pehlu Khan, who was beaten to death in April last year, allegedly by cow vigilantes.

The BJP has fielded former Union minister Sanwar Lal Jat's son Ramswaroop Lamba from Ajmer and the state's Labour Minister Jaswant Singh Yadav from the Alwar Lok Sabha seat. Its candidate in Mandalgarh assembly seat, located in Bhilwara constituency, is Shakti Singh Hada.

In Mandalgarh, BJP's Shakti Singh Hada and Congress's Vivek Dhakad are poised for a tough fight. The bypolls on all the three seats were necessitated after the sudden death of BJP MPs Sanwarlal Jat from Ajmer, Mahant Chand Nath Yogi from Alwar, and MLA Kirti Kumari from Mandalgarh.

Voting in bypolls for Ajmer and Alwar Lok Sabha constituencies and Mandalgarh Assembly seat was held peacefully on Monday, with the parliamentary seats witnessing between 62 and 65 percent polling.
