The Shiv Sena has launched a scathing attack on the BJP over Patidar leader Narendra Patel's allegations that he was offered money to join the saffron party.

The editorial in Shiv Sena's mouthpiece Saamna said asked how come so much money is being spent in Gujarat when there is poverty in the nation.

"Narendra Patel is not the only example of buying powerful politicians through money. This has now become a business in Gujarat," the editorial in Saamna said.

Hinting that the BJP is confident in Gujarat, the editorial further said that even Prime Minister Narendra Modi has not been on a foreign trip and spending most of his time in Gujarat.

"The way a game of gambling is being played in Gujarat, it does not seem like a hometown of Mahatma Gandhi and Sardar Patel, but has now become Prime Minister Modi's and BJP president Amit Shah's," it added.

Narendra Patel, a local convenor of the Hardik Patel's Patidar Anamat Andolan Samiti, had earlier this week alleged that he was offered Rs 1 crore to join the Bharatiya Janata Party.

Patidar leader Nikhil Sawani, who had earlier joined the BJP, on Monday said that he would quit the saffron party as he was "upset" with Narendra Patel being alledgely offered money to join the BJP.

Patidar leaders Reshma Patel and Varun Patel on Saturday joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in presence of party chief Amit Shah.
