New Delhi, May21: Ahead of the declaration of results for the Lok Sabha elections on May 23, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) chief Amit Shah hosted a dinner for National Democratic Alliance (NDA) partners in New Delhi on Tuesday, even as the ruling alliance laid out its agenda for the next five years if it is elected to power again.

At the BJP-led ruling alliance meeting, which was attended by 36 parties, a resolution was passed, terming the 2019 general election decisive for the country and pledging to make India "strong, developed, prosperous and inclusive" by 2022 when India completes 75 years of its independence, party leader and Union minister Rajnath Singh told reporters.

In his address, Modi stressed on the need to change the narrative from caste lines and orient it for the poor, Singh said.

The prime minister expressed concern over the Opposition making "needless controversy" over electronic voting machines, the home minister said.

Sharing visuals from the NDA dinner meet in Delhi on Twitter, Narendra Modi said, "Our alliance represents India's diversity and our agenda is India's progress. We are best suited to address regional aspirations and enhance national progress."

The resolution was proposed by BJP ally and Union minister Ram Vilas Paswan. Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister E K Palaniswami were among the BJP allies who attended the dinner-meeting hosted by BJP president Amit Shah.

The saffron party is buoyed by the results of Sunday's exit polls, most of which predicted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will return to power at the Centre with a healthy majority. The BJP-led NDA, which came to power in 2014 winning 336 seats, is again expected to comfortably cross the 300-mark in the 543 member Lok Sabha, according to many of the polls.

Exit polls have predicted a comfortable win for the NDA in the Lok Sabha elections, the results of which will be announced on May 23.

In 2014, the NDA had won 336 seats and the Congress 44. The BJP had notched up its maiden majority by bagging 282 seats.

The seven-phase Lok Sabha elections, which began on April 11 and concluded on May 19, were fought bitterly with the BJP taking on a formidable Samajwadi Party-Bahujan Samaj Party alliance in Uttar Pradesh, while battling strong incumbent governments in West Bengal (Trinamool Congress) and Odisha (Biju Janata Dal), apart from a pan-India fight against the Congress.
