Bullet train to connect Delhi-Varanasi, travel time to go down from 11 hrs to 3 hrs


New Delhi, June 20: Delhi and Varanasi route will be second in India to be connected by high speed bullet train service. The first bullet train on Mumbai-Ahmedabad stretch is likely to be operational by 2023.

According to media report, Centre has initiated the project to connect national capital with pilgrimage city ahead of the assembly polls in Uttar Pradesh. Varanasi is Lok Sabha constituency of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The bullet train will reduce the travel time between Delhi and Varanasi from around 10 hours to 14 hours to just two hours and 40 minutes.

The project has been given priority in view of the assembly elections.

The report also added that a Spanish firm is studying the feasibility of the proposed corridor and final report will most likely come in by the end of the year.

The 508 km long Mumbai-Ahmedabad high speed rail corridor will have a 21 km tunnel under the sea. Estimated to cost about Rs 97,636 crore, 81 per cent of the funding for the project will come by way of the loan from Japan.
