Tired of the state of roads in Hyderabad after heavy rains each time, a resident has asked the government to either fix the roads or return tax money. The online petition that was started by Raja Mamidi on Tuesday has already gathered the support of 15,000 people and counting.

"It was a nightmare for thousands of software employees who were stuck in traffic jams while trying to reach offices and homes in the IT hub of Madhapur, Kondapur and Gachibowli. Roads in these areas were heavily damaged and flooded due to the rain," Raja has said in his petition.

Addressed to Telangana minister K T Rama Rao, the petition makes a three-point demand from the government and civic agencies.

Identifying the damaged roads/drainages in the city and make the data publicly available.

Action plan with timelines about fixing the roads

Continual public announcements on the progress of the promised timelines till it is achieved 100 per cent

Support has been pouring in for the petition especially by citizens of Hyderabad who have suffered in the heavy rains that the city witnessed. While parts of the city were inundated due to heavy rains, traffic snarls gave Hyderabadis nightmares.

"Im new to Hyderabad. Its been 2 months and roads have been extremely bad which made me question as to how this city has been made. So unplanned and irregular. Hope this petition helps solve issues.(SIC)", read a supporter's reply to the petition.

In the last 24 hours, the intensity of the rainfall has reduced drastically for Telangana. Hyderabad recorded 2.6 mm rainfall on Tuesday and Nizamabad observed 0.2 mm of light spells. With rains expected in the city for another 48 hours at least, citizens are a hassled lot.
