BrahMos range likely to be increased to 450 km: DRDO
The BrahMos is a short-range supersonic cruise missile that can be launched from submarines, ships, aircraft or land.
Bengaluru, Feb 15: Defence Research and Development Organisation chief S Christopher on Wednesday said the range of BrahMos supersonic cruise missile is likely to be increased to 450 km from existing 290 km.
Christopher said that the missile, which can be launched from submarines, ships, aircraft or land, with the enhanced range was expected be tested around March 10.
The BrahMos is a short-range ramjet supersonic cruise missile that can be launched from submarines, ships, aircraft or land. It is a joint venture between the Russian Federation's NPO Mashinostroeyenia and DRDO who have together formed BrahMos Aerospace.
It is based on the Russian P-800 Oniks cruise missile and other similar sea-skimming Russian cruise missile technology.
The name BrahMos is derived from the names of two rivers, the Brahmaputra of India and the Moskva of Russia.
