Blue Whale: HC notice to Centre, Punjab, Haryana on plea seeking ban

The Punjab and Haryana high court on Monday issued notice to the union ministry of home affairs, ministry o telecommunications and the states of Punjab, Haryana and UT Chandigarh on a plea seeking ban on "Blue whale" game.

Fixing the case for September 20, HC demanded an explanation from HC on why a stay should not be granted on such games.

Division bench comprising Justice AK Mittal and Justice Amit Rawal has issued the notices after taking cognizance of the petition filed by Chandigarh based lawyer, Hitesh Kaplish.

Petitioner had argued that the central government has not done anything substantial to ban or stop the access of this deadly game and the publication of news in print as well as Electronic media has further lead to increasing the curiosity among youngsters to access the game and play the same.

He had appeared in person before the HC also mentioned various incidents including September 3, 2017 incidents where a Panchkula boy Vaibhav jumped from 3rd floor of his house in a bid to commit suicide.

Blue Whale Challenge a very scary game wherein youngsters who have access of this game are asked to complete certain targets within a period of 50-days and are pressurized by another task master to take up the target. This deadly online game has led over 100 youngsters around the world to kill themselves, argued the petitioner.
