The blast took place ta 6.15 pm near the Kasturi Bridge. The nature of the blast is however unclear and police officials are probing into the matter. No outfit has claimed responsibility for the blast as yet.

The blast comes just a day after an explosion rocked Manipur's Kamjong district. A polling official who was injured in the blast succumbed to injuries on Wednesday. On Tuesday a 31 Assam Rifles' trooper was wounded when a bomb was hurled by miscreants on Tuesday evening in Aishi village of the same district.

Intelligence Bureau officials say that the motive behind the attacks was to create panic during the elections. There are several groups such as the People's Liberation Army which have attempted to disrupt peace in the past as well. The IB official told OneIndia that these attacks just a few days after the High Court had declared the economic blockade in the state as illegal. This had become a major issue ahead of the elections. The protest was against the creation of seven new districts in the state.
