Government of India is observing the 'official' death anniversary of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose today. But, the mystery around the death of the leader continues even after the Narendra Modi government declassified 305 Netaji files in 2016.

Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose

Anuj Dhar, author of 'India's Biggest Cover-up' and founder-trustee of New Delhi-based not for profit organisation 'Mission Netaji' spoke to Oneindia on the 72nd anniversary of Subhas Chandra Bose .

Anuj Dhar, said: ''It's a good thing that Narendra Modi govt declassified 305 Netaji files. Every single page is a good thing. They have not released intelligence files. IB files have not been touched. This is not complete declassification.''

''These are regular bureaucratic files. But Intelligence doesn't operate under the ambit of law. We have been asking to release those files,'' he said.

Even family members of Netaji echoes same demand of declassification of all files, including IB files by the Centre. They also seek the government to appoint a high-power Special Investigation Team (SIT) to scrutinize the documents.

Dhar firmly believes that Netaji was not killed in plane crash in 1945 in Taiwan.

''I have no reason to change my conclusion that Government of India was fully aware of Subhas Chandra Bose did not die in plane crash, but the the lie was spread for political reasons.''

Still, there are three theories doing rounds on what happened to Netaji.

1. He died in a plane crash in Japanese occupied Taiwan in 1945
2. He was killed in Russia by Stalin regime, which is openly told by General GD Bakshi and BJP leader Subramanian Swamy
3. He died as Gumnami Baba in Faizabad, Uttar Pradesh

Based on his research Dhar did believe that Netaji went to Soviet Russia after Japan lost the second world war, but he was not killed there. ''Because Stalin had nothing to gain from killing Netaji. In fact, he didn't like Nehru,'' Dhar explains.

Dhar had personally spoken to the Taiwanese government during his research. The government of Taiwan denied plane crash on August 18, 1945.

'' I have no reason to disbelieve what the Government of Taiwan says because they have no political reasons.''

Therefore, Dhar is betting on the Faizabad angle.

On January 31, 2013, the Allahabad High Court had directed the Uttar Pradesh government to display Gumnami Baba's possessions in a museum and set up a commission of inquiry to establish who the Gumnami baba was. Akhilesh Yadav government ordered an inquiry committee to probe Gumnami Baba's origins in 2016.

''We have to wait for the Commission report to move forward, '' added Dhar.
To a question whether BJP government do justice to Netaji files, he said: ''I think BJP government is not hostile to the idea, Congress party was. It is in BJP's interest to declassify files. Under public and media pressure, the government will have to deliver more."

Meanwhile, on the occasion of death anniversary of Subhas Chandra Bose Balaji Films is releasing a trailer of upcoming web series 'Bose dead or alive'. Bollywood star Rajkumar Rao plays Subhas Chandra Bose in the series directed by National Award winning director Hansal Mehta.

The web series is based on Dhar's book 'India's Biggest Cover-up'.
