BJP likely to snatch Assam from Congress: Exit polls
New Delhi, May 16: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) likely to wrest power from Congress in Assam, if yes this will end 15 years of Congress rule in the state.
As per India Today survey BJP-AGP alliance poised to win 79-93 seats in Assam while the incumbent Congress government may reduce at 26-33 seats in the just concluded assembly elections. Pro-Muslim outfit, All India United Democratic Front is expected to win merely 10 seats.
The India Today-Axis exit poll gave 79-93 seats to the BJP combine, 26-33 to the Congress and 6-10 to the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF).
ABP-Nielsen predicted 81 seats to the BJP coalition, 33 to the Congress and 10 to the AIUDF.
The NewsX Chanakya poll gave 90 seats to the BJP combine, 27 to the Congress and nine to the AIUDF.
According to the Time Now C-Voter exit poll, the BJP and allies would get 57 seats, the Congress 41, AIUDF 18 and others 10.
Before the polls it was stated that Assam is the only state where BJP stands a chance of winning where it projected Sarbananda Sonowal as chief ministerial candidate.
A poll victory in Assam will be a breather for BJP to come out of the jolt after back-to-back defeats in Delhi and Bihar last year.

With an aim to cross the magic figure and expand its footprint in Assam, BJP formed an alliance with the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), a strong regional party. AGP had been a former ally of the Congress - Bodoland Peoples Front - and dissident Congress leaders.
BJP is eyeing a gain in Assam in view of victory in Assam civic polls last year where it won 340 of 746 municipal board and town committee wards in the state.
126 constituencies in Assam went into polls on April 4 and April 11. Vote count will take place on May 19.
In the last elections in Assam, the Congress won 78 seats, the AIUDF 18 and the BJP five seats.
