Biren Singh sworn in as chief minister of Manipur
The Congress was represented at the funciton by former CM Ibobi Singh and Manipur Congress president TN Haokip.
Imphal, March 15: BJP's N Biren Singh has been sworn in as chief minister of Manipur on Wednesday at the Raj Bhawan in Imphal. Manipur Governor Najma Haptullah had invited BJP-led coalition to form the next government after she was assured that BJP has support of regional parties and Independent MLAs.
The function was attended by many dignitaries from the BJP and the Congress. Union Ministers Prakash Javadekar and Jitendra Singh were present along with the BJP's Ram Madhav. BJP president Amit Shah could not attend the oath-taking as his helicopter had suffered a technical problem. The Congress was represented at the funciton by former CM Ibobi Singh and Manipur Congress president TN Haokip.
The titular king of Manipur, Leishemba Sanajaoba was also present. He had also attended BJP's election campaign meetings in the state. Though the Congress had emerged as the single largest party in the state with 28 seats, it could not form the government as the regional parties NPP, NPF and LJP decided to support the BJP.
