Some of the residents of Danwar village have steged a protest demanding action against those responsible for facilitating hooch trade in the area.

In August, 13 persons died after consuming spurious liquor in Gopalganj town of Bihar.

It must be recalled that liquor was banned in Bihar in April last year. The Gopalganj tragedy was first such incident after prohibition was imposed across the state.

In neighbouring state Uttar Pradesh, the Yodi Adityanath-led government amended a 107 year old law and approved capital punishment for those indulging in illicit liquor trade. The UP Excise Act was amended in which capital punishment to those involved in illicit liquor trade was approved. UP became the second state in the country after Gujarat to have introduced death penalty for this crime.
