Bengaluru, Sept. 1: Barely a month after one bandh call shut IT City down for a day, Bengaluru is gearing up for one more bandh.

The Bharat Bandh call by the trade unions on September 2 will be felt strongly in the technology and outsourcing hub, with the state-owned road transport corporations KSRTC and BMTC and auto-rickshaw and cab drivers all resolving to go off the road on Friday.

All-India Trade Union Congress (AITUC) state general secretary H.V. Ananatha Subbarao said that in protest against the proposed Motor Vehicle (Amendment) bill 2016, all four state road transport corporations will stay off the road and even autorickshaw drivers affiliated to the union will not ply.

The Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited has not taken a call on whether its trains will ply or not or if it will step up the frequency of trains on Friday to cater to higher demand. BMRCL public relations officer Vasanth Rao said the corporation will take a call after studying the situation. "We will take a decision based on the situation that will prevail on Friday."

Schools and colleges too may stay shut as bus drivers have extended support to the bandh call. Bengaluru Urban Deputy Commissioner V. Shankar said a decision on schools will be taken by Thursday evening.
