Bengaluru: Thousands of job seekers duped in fake job fair

Bengaluru, Dec 23: There is no dearth of fraudsters these days and no-one should be trusted on face value. A 40-year-old software engineer, along-with his wife reportedly duped thousands of unemployed youths, by organising a fake IT job fair in Bengaluru.

According to reports, the accused man was arrested by Basavangudi police, as they received similar complaints from many youths.

Santana Gopalan, the accused from Chennai, held a job fair at APS Commerce College campus in Basvangudi on Dec 20, on a rent of Rs 10,000. He kept the entry ticket for each person at Rs 100.

He lured job seekers by placing an advertisement that claimed that big IT companies are going to participate in the fair, to hire engineering and business management graduates.

After coming to know about the fair, youths in large number from neighbouring states Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Andhra Pradesh had flocked to participate in the fair.

To hoodwink job aspirants, Gopalan even hired some youths to pose as interviewers.

Acting on a tip off, police officials arrested Gopalan and Rs 24,400 was recovered from him. Meanwhile, his wife and partner in crime is absconding.

Gopalan confessed to have lure youths on the pretext of fake job fair ans said that he got this idea when he visited a job fair two months ago.
