Bengaluru, September 12: The rain-battered IT city struggled to recover after many areas were inundated, throwing normal life out of gear due to heavy rains.

Some lakes breached their banks leading to flash floods in several parts of the city. Many areas were inundated with sewage mixed water. Begur, HSR Layout, Mysuru Road near Vrishabhavathi river turned-sewage drain, Madivala and parts of Electronic City were badly affected.

The waste weir of Begur lake was damaged in the recent rain. Before civic agencies could restore the lake bund, heavy rains in the last three days played spoilsport again, civic officials said.

"Water has receded from flood affected areas, but water has stagnated in many low-lying areas. People are still struggling to drain out water from their houses. The rain has left a trail of destruction," said Bengaluru Mayor G Padmavathi.

She said roads had been washed away in many parts of the city, leaving behind huge potholes, which would take a long time to be repaired.

Mayor granted Rs five lakh compensation to the next of the kin of Jagadisha, who was killed along with his sister and brother-in-law, when a huge tree fell on their car on September 8 due to heavy rains.
