Bengaluru: After HSR Layout, “No Vehicle Days” to be observed in Koramangala, BTM Layout
Bengaluru, Sept 23: After successful implementation of Open Streets in HSR Layout, Bengaluru is all set to witness 'no vehicle day' in Koramangala, BTM Layout and other areas.
As per a report published in TOI, the Karnataka government has also decided to implement the move in tier 2 cities like Mysuru, Hubballi-Dharwad, Mangaluru and Belagavi.
Bengaluru district minister B Ramalinga Reddy, who represents BTM Layout, said that the government is working on logistics to make it a success. [Bengaluru: No Vehicle Day observed in HSR Layout]
Transport department is also mulling to hold vehicle free days in crowded localities like MG Road and Brigade Road.
The move is being taken to promote walking, cycling and public transport.
On Sunday, Sept 20, the residents of HSR Layout in south-east Bengaluru had observed a vehicle free day. The 31-year-old locality remained close for private vehicles from 6 am to 9 pm.
In Gurgaon, Car Free Day (CFD) was observed on Tuesday, Sept 22. The CFD was an initiative of the Gurgaon administration, organised by traffic police and municipal corporation with support from NASSCOM, Embarq India, Raahgiri Foundation and Rapid Metro.
