Kolkata, April 4:The West Bengal police are looking into the motive behind the blast that occurred at the Belur Math. [Why are Bengal's media & opposition silent over the blasts?]

What was being termed as a firecracker now appears to be the case of a low intensity bomb which the investigators are taking extremely seriously.

The police commissioner of Howrah informed that all angles are being probed into the case. It was quite a powerful explosion and every angle is being probed.

On Friday evening there was an explosion at the Belur Math which sent devotees gathered there into a tizzy.

None were injured in the blast, but the explosion shattered the glass panes at the Math.

What is the motive

The West Bengal police say that the motive is not clear as yet.

We are looking into all possible angles. Whether it was rivalry within the Math or some element who was trying to orchestrate an attack in a bid to send a warning signal? These are the angles which are under probe, an officer informed.

The Intelligence Bureau which is also studying the matter says that there could be multiple reasons behind this incident.

There are a set of disgruntled people in West Bengal who have been upset over the recent findings in the Burdwan blasts case. This is one angle that could be probed by the police.

The IB official also said that the other angles could be a rivalry or some miscreant trying to gain some attention.

The preliminary investigations have however revealed that the intention was to target a large gathering which had gathered there on Friday evening.

The initial findings show that there were metal pieces in the bomb which was placed at the Math.

However, it was a low intensity bomb and the intent was more to warn the people rather than try and kill, investigations would also show.

Bomb at shoe counter

The bomb was found at the shoe counter of the Math. It is said to have gone off approximately at around 5.40 pm.

The explosion created panic as a result of which the devotees were scattered all over the place.

The police then cordoned off the area and restored normalcy.

The Math is an extremely important place since this was the place where Swami Vivekananda spent his last days.

The Math is always packed to capacity on Friday evenings.
