New Delhi, Feb 4: The Border Security Force in its preliminary inquiry said that lack of cumin (jeera) in food items, prepared in one of its canteens, led to a soldier posting a video on his Facebook account in which he raised a protest about the kind of diet provided to Indian jawans. Cumin is widely used as a flavouring agent in various Indian cuisines.

In its inquiry report, the BSF stated that cumin was not available for two to three days at the base camp and before that was addressed jawan Tej Bahadur Yadav had posted the video.

It may be recalled that Yadav had posted a video complaining about the poor quality of food which led to a nation-wide outrage. The BSF says that his allegations are not supported by Yadav's fellow colleagues. Further, the BSF has indicated that the officials of the paramilitary force will probe into breach of discipline against Yadav.

The inquiry also looked into the supply of food items such as cumin, garlic, ginger and onion. The BSF officials say that the inquiry report will be made available in the next few days. "The inquiry revolves around various issues and it is not just against one individual," added an official.
